Remembering Harry Workman: Evangelist and Servant in DELMARVA Church Plants

My friend, Harry Workman went home to Jesus on April 26, 2022.

In 2002, Church Extension requested that people from the BFC come to Delaware and assist us with doing community surveys. We had identified particular target sites where we wanted to start planting churches in the DELMARVA Peninsula. Harry and Sandra Workman were some of the people who responded and came to Delaware and joined our survey team, along with the Pellos, the Farleys, the Kulps, the planters and others.

God used this experience to have the Workmans think about what more they could do to serve Him. After hearing about the global mission program at their home church, Calvary BFC, Sinking Spring, PA, and my presentation of the Aquila & Priscilla Team ministry that Church Extension was developing, Harry and Sandra gave me a call. During the next twelve months, I met with Harry and Sandra, and answered the many questions they asked. Then, in 2005, Harry called me and said they were ready to be an Aquila & Priscilla Team in DELMARVA. For the Workmans this meant selling their home and moving to Delaware. This is not always the case for those who want to be an Aquila and Priscilla. Most Aquilas and Priscillas give a portion of their time to this ministry, but Harry had told me, if we are going to do it, we need to do it all the way!

In 2005, they sacrificed, left their home and church in PA, and moved to a completely new area in Georgetown, DE. Since 2005, Harry and Sandra were involved with assisting the establishment of the New Life BFC in Long Neck, DE, and made the New Life church their base for assisting other church plants. They aided Ray Bertolet, Assistant Church Planter, with demographic surveys, community surveys, and outreaches in Lewes, DE, Rehoboth, DE, Long Neck, DE, Milford, DE, Townsend, DE, Chestertown, MD, and other places I am probably forgetting. Harry & Sandra were committed to prayer and evangelism. Prayer was, and is, always the biggest part of Sandra’s ministry, and evangelism was always the biggest part of Harry’s ministry.

Harry was a go-getter when it came to sharing the Gospel. There were no barriers that kept Harry from telling people about Jesus. Together, Harry and Sandra were a great Aquila & Priscilla Team. I will always hold close to my heart the fun, challenges, and times of serving the Lord with Harry. I am not sure what he will be doing in Heaven since there will be no one to witness to, but I know the Lord will use His energy to worship and serve Him. Thank you, Lord, for Harry, and using him to touch many lives with your beautiful Gospel. May we be as spirited with witnessing the love of Jesus to people.
